THE SCHWARZKOPF & MODERN MASTERS COLLECTION
The Collection

From 1974 on the French Post (Poste Francaise)
has started to publish and circulate a series of stamps
each of which for the first time ever showing
a work of a famous contemporary artist.
Some of these artists even made a genuine new work
to be shown on “their” stamp.
Printed in numbers of millions these stamps
did not only serve their ordinary purpose
but also carried works of art
to the attention of millions of people.

Into the 1980’s the modern masters
consented to take part in a project
which was absolutely unique worldwide.
They added their hand signature
to a small number of their stamps (see the artwork),
both now on one sheet
of precious hand-made paper Lana Velins.

So the postal stamps transformed
to the same range as a piece of printed original graphic.
